Dear Friend,
It gives me immense pleasure in announcing the launch of the print- version of Denim Club India newsletter!
I am privileged that Dr. P. R. Roy, rightly known as the Father of Denim in India,
who has also been the inspiration behind launch of Denim Club India, agreed to add
zest to our first edition with his Interview, I feel proud and happy to have achieved
my long-cherished dream of sharing his deep insight and vast knowledge about the
Indian denim industry with all of you through Denim Club India newsletter.
The basic idea behind launching Denim Club India was to bring together all denim
professionals in India on a unified platform to meet & interact with each other,
and share thoughts, ideas and achievements.
Apart from being a social and professional networking place for professionals involved
in denim related activities, DCI also serves as a Business Center for the buyers and sellers
of denim fabrics and garments.
Moreover, in view of the fact that we do not have any indigenous designer denim brands
or labels available in India, DCI is also building up a library of designs for denim apparels
to steer the process of making available Designer Denim at an affordable price to the Indian consumers.
DCI shall be soon announcing a national level design competition for students of fashion and apparel
design to kick-start a design revolution in denim apparel in India, and bring about a permanent change
in the way denim is considered to be synonymous with jeans.
Building upon our initiative into a noble cause, 1st December 2008 witnessed the first
'India Denim Day' to support and create awareness about People Living with HIV and AIDS.
The theme for this year's HIV and AIDS Awareness Campaign linked with the 'India Denim Day',
is 'Do Something and Make a Difference'. DCI appeals to each and every individual to come forward
and do something in their own way to help the noble cause. The campaign started off with
the launch of a Denim Give Away Drive, on 15 November 2009, and has been spreading far and wide,
much more than we expected.
I look forward to your valuable inputs to further this initiative and improve the Denim Club India platform.
