| DCI - Industry Institute Interface |
A productive interface between industry and academia, in the
current era of knowledge driven economy, is a critical requirement. The
DCI - I3 Plan is all about knowledge sharing,
knowledge transfer and transfer of experience and technology.
The curriculum being taught at most of the educational institutes and the skill-set required by industry do not
match, and there exists a gap between what is available and what is required. This is the result of minimal
or almost non-existent interaction between industry executives and students of professional courses. The
students remain unaware of employer expectations and industry needs and the employers find the fresh
incumbents lacking in various ways.
There is a strong need to have continuous exchange of knowledge and information between the Industry and
institutes in order to improve the faculty's understanding of the specific needs of industry, and to
appraise the industry executives with the work and potential of students, so as to enhance the employability
of professionals, and to minimize the problems faced by the industry in absorbing these professionals.
The I3 Plan by DCI is an attempt to bring together the Industry and
Institutes - with the objective of enabling students of textile,
apparel, fashion, and design streams to get opportunities to work
directly with the industry - guided by seasoned technicians and
professionals - in a systematic and organized way, in the specific
context of denim fabric and denim garments.
The Denim Club India shall draw strength for the I3 Plan from its extensive network of denim mills, denim
garmenting companies, buying and trading houses, and the retail segment.
Under the I3 Plan, Denim Club India shall, on one hand, interface with the faculty members of reputed
textile, apparel, fashion and retail institutes, and develop a library of minor and major projects based on
the curriculum in place. On the other hand, Denim Club India would interact with the industry executives and
decision makers and identify the possible areas in which the fresh and innovative thought-process and ideas
of the young professionals-in-making students can be utilized.
Denim Club India shall facilitate the interaction between institutes and industry, and make it possible for
the industry to identify and nurture talent, and for the institutes to build up long-term relationships with
industrial and business houses.
Roadmap for Students
The ideal roadmap for students would be to start with a summer internship and
subsequently carry out their minor as well as major projects in continuation of
the work done in the initial stages, which would give the students a clearly
defined and focused line for carrying out the research related work.
